Hello! I've been googling and YouTubing for the last couple of hours, but I can't seem to solve this issue.
I just setup this PfSense router. I also have a DLink DIR-885L Wireless Router that I'm trying to setup as an access point.
Now, I've done the following things:
- Installed PFSense (no issues)
- Disabled DHCP in the DLink Router (no issues)
- Plugged the 'Opt 1' port of the PfSense router to the NON-INTERNET port on the DLink device.
The problem is, I can't get PfSense to recognize there's a wireless device connected. I tried to add a new interface 'OPT1' in PfSense, but it won't give me any wireless options. If I go to Interfaces -> Assign and click on 'Wireless' then click on 'Add'. Under the 'Parent Interface' dropdown it just says None available.
I'm not really trying to do anything special, I just want to able to add WiFi to my network. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
All the examples that I googled were people using machines that had built-in WiFi cards and were using 'Ath0'. I don't even see 'Ath0' as an option anywhere. Please halp!

Hi Josh,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
I suspect the issue might be with incompatible network drivers. Suggest you to try the below mentioned steps and check if they helps.
Method 1:
Run built in Network troubleshooters
* Press Windows Key then type ‘troubleshoot’ and hit Enter
* Select “View all” on the left panel and run “Internet connections” troubleshooter from the list and see if it works. Also try to run Network Adapter troubleshooter to see any issues with it.
* Click Advanced, ensure to check Apply repairs automatically and also select Run as administrator
* Click Next and finish the troubleshooting
Method 2:
Refer the article Why can't I get online? and see if it helps. It will guide you all steps for connecting to Internet.
Method 3:
Check and install latest Windows 10 Network drivers for your device from Manufacture's website and check if it helps. You can search them using your device model on Manufacture's website.
If no updated drivers available on the computer manufacturer’s website for windows 10, then trying installing it in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.
Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.
a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.
b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
Let us know if problem still persist, we're glad to assist you. Hope this will address your query.
